Kinesiology tape can be used to help clear swelling and inflammation in tissues by creating a lifting effect under the skin to allow better movement of fluids underneath. KTape can be used to decrease perceived pain by interfering the pain signals to the brain by overloading the sensory signals. Important to note that this does not “fix” the injury it is merely a distraction technique, please seek medical consultation if you are continuing to have pain or movement dysfunction.
One of the biggest areas that Kinesiology tape (RockTape) is used is to enhance proprioceptive awareness of the tissues underneath the tape. This can help to normalize movement patterns to attempt to speed the recovery process. The science/art of this application is very specific though and simply following the guidance of a YouTube video is probably not gonna get it done.
